Summer Camp was an ambitious animation project started in January of 06. We decided to make a cartoon series for the internet, because we felt the majority of internet cartoons were sub-par, and we felt we could do better. It turns out we couldn't, and there are a multitude of reasons why.
We were niave. We wrote all of the episodes at once, expecting to be able to catch up. We put too much faith in outside animators, which were inconsistent and sometimes altogether unreliable. Due to unfortunate coincidences, large amounts of work were lost in computer crashes and dialogue files were corrupted.
Summer Camp, originally intended to be a ten part series, turned out to be a one part series, released in January of 07. It was alright, but the amount of work that was put into it versus the result was very very depressing, and the series was called off completely in the next few months.
We're going to work on other things.
What do we think of the first episode?
“I thought it was funny. There were some stuff I would of changed. Quick sum:Could have made it better, but still, pretty good” - James
“I'm proud of it, I think it was better than most of what you see around the internet, but I am not going through that again. My hands tremble when I think about it. It could have been awesome, I think.” -Shawn
“I wish we made a different episode [out of the ten] first, because it was the least funny of the bunch.. For the internet, I think it was pretty different, which was good in some ways and bad in other ways. We succeeded in not falling into dumb internet territory.” -Eric
Big learning experience.
